why am i running

Here's Why:

Ward 2 isn't a political opportunity for me. It's where I come from.

I was raised mostly in the North End, and my family's roots here run deep — I still have family and lifelong ties in this community today. That's not a talking point. It's who I am, and it's why I won't stay quiet while this ward gets less than it deserves.

What's Actually Going Right — And What Still Isn't

Downtown Hamilton has seen real private investment over the past several years — housing built, heritage buildings restored, and thousands of new residents in the core. That deserves recognition. But acknowledging progress isn't the same as pretending everything is fine.

Too many residents still feel unsafe.

Too much infrastructure is failing.

Too much public money isn't being used as residents were told it would be.

That’s why the next sections focus on the issues that still need action.

Ward 2 deserves a councillor who sees the whole picture — who credits real progress honestly, and confronts real problems directly.

Safer Streets

Ward 2 has recorded the highest volume of violent crime of any ward in the city, year after year.

I'll work with the Hamilton Police Service — not against them — including expanding the Mobile Crisis Rapid Response Team to 24-hour coverage, so people in crisis get real help instead of a criminal record.

I'll be clear about jurisdiction: mental health care is a provincial responsibility, not a municipal one. I'll take that fight directly to local MPPs and, if necessary, to the Premier — because Hamilton has been absorbing downloaded provincial obligations for too long

Your Tax Dollars

Ward 2 is around 70% renters. Apartment dwellers pay property tax every month — it's just called rent — often at a far higher effective rate than homeowners pay, without ever seeing the bill directly.

They deserve a voice, and they deserve to see their money used properly.

The Ward 2 Capital Discretionary Fund was initially meant for sidewalks, roads, and lasting repairs — not a general grant program. I will use more of the fund for its original intended use.

I'll hold that line, with real consultation before decisions are made, not a press release after.

If we’re serious about fairness, every tax dollar has to be treated as a shared responsibility.

Affordable Housing

The funding exists. The projects are ready. The bottleneck is often City Hall's approval process. I'll work to cut the delays — for non-profit and for-profit builders alike — so people who could be housed aren't left waiting for paperwork.

Responsible Industrial Development

Hamilton includes land that could see major industrial investment in the years ahead — including proposals for AI data centres on the old Stelco lands. That kind of development can bring real jobs and real value to this city. But it has to be done right, with a real voice for this community at every stage.

That means ecological and safety standards that are binding conditions — not voluntary guidelines or marketing promises. Countries doing this responsibly treat things like closed-loop cooling and waste heat recovery as mandatory requirements, not best practices.

Hamilton should demand the same. I've written extensively about what "done right" actually looks like for this specific project — you can read that here.  If this development moves ahead, those standards need to stay central.

What Kind of Councillor I'll Be

Every call and email gets a response within 24 business hours. I'll never lie to you, and neither will anyone who answers to me.

I'll listen to people I disagree with, because good decisions require hearing the whole picture — not just the parts that confirm what we already believe.

That's the standard I want to carry through every part of this campaign.
